Maranovici is one of the oldest settlements on the island of Mljet, named after Ratko Maranovici, landowner. Rich field and a large olive trees contributed to the development of this place that  once had his parish and judges.
The parish church of St. Anthony was built on the place of an old gothic church of St. Anthony mentioned the brotherhood in Maranovici in early XVII. century.
 
Today's church of St Anthony emerged in the first half of the XIX. century. It keeps a nice cup (117x115 mm) of gold-plated silver. Chalice has a very Gothic forms and dates to the second half of the XV. century. Probably derives from the old church of Our Lady of the Hill, which is located above the village, and is considered to be a building from XIV. - XV. century, because it is visible to have a transitional Romanesque - Gothic style. The altar was hallowed in 1494. 
 
The Roman Catholic parish in Maranovici was established 1769th . and place also has a well-preserved castle  from  family PES.
 
On the hill above Maranovi is Vrhmljeće, place centuries successfully concealed from pirate attacks and it is one of the oldest settlements of Slavic population on the island.
